Courts Decide Visitation Schedule
If you have decided to take legal action in custody and visitations of your child, you should look at the State of Colorado’s domestic relations laws which summarizes that the courts have the “best interests of the child” as the main determination when ruling on child custody cases. “Best interests” are determined by the Colorado Revised Statutes, Title 14, Section 124. Maintaining and protecting the best interests of the child should be your ultimate goal as well.
Legal Terms
In order to to be more family-friendly and positive, The State of Colorado has made changes to terms used in court.
Parenting Time: “Parenting Time” is used to replace “visitation.” Parenting time refers to the time each parent has with their child while the other parent is away.
Parental Responsibilities: “Parental Responsibilities” now takes place of the word “custody.” This pertains to the responsibilities and rights of each parent in regard to caregiving responsibilities and parenting of their child.
